“Good night, and good luck”

In a move that should surprise nobody, this blog will be going dark, effective a few seconds after this post goes live.  Though it has been a fun ride, it isn’t receiving the attention it deserves.

NaNo 2016 took a lot out of me, including the joy of story telling.  As such, I have put down the (figurative) pen.  Since I am not writing, a writing blog (that isn’t getting updated) doesn’t make much sense.

I’ve also eliminated the J. Andrew Jansen facebook page.  (Friends list wiped clean, account deactivated, password changed to a 30 character random string which was immediately deleted.  It’s never coming back.)

For the sake of sanity, I will be doing the same to my primary Facebook page in the near future as well.  Reading facebook has becoming the equivalent of reading YouTube comments, in that I never feel *better* about humanity after doing so.

For any interested, I will be posting more general life activities on a new blog:  I have no illusions nor expectations of anyone following  me to the new site.

It was fun while it lasted, and for those that carry on the weaving of wonder that is story telling, I wish only the best.

Opening Scene

“I was younger then, when it started.  And a fool.”  Trevor stared across the restaurant at nothing in particular.  “I guess I’m older now.”

Connor frowned, his eyebrows dancing up across his forehead but he didn’t reply.  He sipped at the overheated cup of stim-caf, his tongue objecting to both the heat and the bitterness of the artificial beverage.

Trevor caught the expression.  “I’m older than I look,” he said simply.

That’s it for now.  Considering it a head start for NaNo.  What do you think?  If this was the start of the book, would you turn the page and keep reading?

As per usual…

nano_15_poster_mainI have about 9000 things going on at once.  Thought I’d pop a quick update on here, since I’ve been so bad at that.

I got my NaNoWriMo poster today (That’s it to the right over there.)  I’m going to bring it with me to writing events, etc.  Hopefully draw some interest that way.

Still making initial contacts with artists about re-covering Priestess.  I can hear Mirian nit-picking, see Jerok shrugging, and I’m sure Llaewyn is ready to tell me I’m doing it wrong.  Ah, well.  If you can’t listen to the voices in your head, who can you listen too, right?

Also, tentative title for this years NaNo project is “Empire Falling”.  I’m not in love with it, so we’ll see.  Google turns up no previous uses of it though, so that’s good.

Finally, is it wrong that the second character I’ve thought up is already scheduled to die?  I even know how I’m going to do it.  The twisted mind of an author…

Blood Bound Update

Just a quick pop-in to let y’all know that I’m still plugging away.  Just finished pass 2 on chapter 5.  I’ve decided to do a completely separate pass to work on setting and scenery.  So that will be tomorrow’s project.

I’m still hoping to get Blood Bound wrapped up by October 1 so I can plan Book 2, tentatively to be titled Sunburst, for a month before hitting it for NaNoWriMo.

Meanwhile, watch this space for more character interviews, backstories, and all the other good stuff that goes with writing a story!

Thanks for playing along!
